Quickest way to convert MPG to XVID etc

Hey all,

Im converting a recording here from MPG to XVID using Auto Gordian Knot, although it seems to take a long time.

Is this normal? Its about one hours worth of video footage, and so far, its coming up to 2 hours. Are there quicker programs, or is this normal?

Also, the PC Im using is just a AMD 2100XP with 512mb RAM.

I've got a P4 3.0GB w/ 1024MB RAM and I'm about the same - roughly 2:1 in terms of time taken, so it sounds normal to me.

Generally. Sometimes, when I get the urge to "get my hands dirty" I use virtualdub, but more often that not I use autoGK.
