  2. read a few reviews and there not very compatible at all.most players wont recognise them, specially as the booktype is set to dvd-r,and most if not all players wouldnt read past the first layer.
and even pc recognition is a problem.
ill stick with dvd+rDL for the foreseeable future.

I'm having flashbacks of the old -R crowd when +R was released.....

Although it looks bad for DVD-R DL, don't count it out until all the cards are on the table. DVD+R DL has had almost a year of maturity, and I wouldn't exactly call it the "people's choice" at this point. Some early reviews of DVD+R DL showed 30% compatibility. It was only after it's main stream release, that bitsetting DL was established.

There is one good thing about the release of -R DL I can make a logical statement on. Even if -R DL does end up sukking, we should see more decent media and competitive pricing. That would be a much needed boost for +R DL. I, for one, would be darn happy.

  5. SVP are selling it here in the UK, and Pioneer are already talking about DL-R support for the 109... I must admit I'm not busting a gut to try it either, but with a bit of competition against the +R crowd maybe this will mean some cheaper media for all before long... ?
