  1. I've been making seperate data folders on my burned DVD-R. I put text files and MD5 checksum files in these folders. So far, it hasn't caused problems. Will all DVD players ignore these extra files, and just play the DVD?

    Hi Wile_E,

I believe that, as long as the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders are on a DVD the menu and movie will play fine. Additional folders, in my experience, have been ignored.

Some players only look for the VIDEO_TS folder, but I always burn both to be safe.

I also have added extra folders for photo's, what have you, with no problem, i used to just add extras to the AUDIO_TS folder and have never had a problem but LS pointed out once it might not be good when you use a standalone that plays dvd-audio disc's as they look in that folder for the music files, although i never had a problem with that, i still went with adding an extra folder for any extra's (like photo's ect) i want to add to the dvd disc... including movie dvd's.....

    VIDEO_TS <- video in here
    AUDIO_TS <- leave empty
ROM <- this is always a safe folder name to use, put anything you want inside it

I have seen other structures, but I've also seen weird stuff because of it.

You could probably even make a folder name like "STUFF" or "EXTRAS" and it would be fine. Just lay low on the files/folders that appear in the main root. Make a single subfolder and stick everything in there (even more sub folders if needed).

  5. i've done it plenty of times and never had a problem before. just leave the audio folder blank and only put the dvd info in the video_ts folder and you can do basically anything with the rest of it.
