  1. I record mpg files (TV programs) to DVD.
I would like to be able to reedit/reauthor them.

    Having read the thread at
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
I have demuxed using DVD Decrypter, but this gives 3 files:
    m2v
    mp2
    .txt file containing:
    0xC0 - Audio - MPEG-1 / 2ch / 48kHz / 16bit / LBA: 26 / PTS: 00:00:00.240 / Delay: -74ms
    0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 16:9 / Letterboxed / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.315 / Delay: 0ms

Do the 'delay' figures mean there is a sync difference between the m2v and mp2? If so how do I get rid of it?

What happens regarding sync if I just rename a VOB to mpg?

Where can I read about how sync works in mpeg files and DVD?

  2. Use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author them. If still out of sync, cut them with VideoReDo first. You may be dropping frames as you capture.

  3. To clarify, my question is about how to take a burned DVD and extract mpgs from it, which your answer did not address.
However, I checked out VideoRedo and it can read VOBs and output mpgs, so you have inadvertantly answered my question

That's assuming the offset that DVD Decrypter reports comes from the VOB rather than the IFO. If it's in the VOB then VideoRedo can take note of it. The IFO is not passed to VideoRedo, so the info would be lost.

Anyone know where this offset info comes from?
