First try some different media. If no luck, blow the dust out of your burner with some canned air. If still no go, try a cleaner disk.
If you get no improvement then, think about replacing the burner. -
It happened to me, too, a couple of months ago. I tried burning a CD, and that still worked. I researched what it might mean, and was discouraged by what I found out. I tried the same things you did, and a couple that redwudz suggested, but with no luck. I rebooted, and everything was good again. Just lucky, maybe.

I cleaned the drive off.
It will burn cd's all day long..but NO luck on dvd's??
Still reads dvd's fine..just has an error when I burn.
Tried changing media as well..BUT NO LUCK there either.
Any more suggestions????
thanks to all that have replied -
What media are you using?
Btw, try searching the forum for this message, there should be around 1000 posts on it. -
Have you updated nero recently?
My burner says power calibration error every time I try to burn CDs, but burns DVD's fine. If I let NERO coem up with the error and then tell it to burn again (on the same disc same files etc) it burns no problem. I have only had this problem since upgrading to NERO version 6.6 since 6.3 wouldn't work with XP SP2. I get no problems burning CDs with Cyberlink Power2Go but it is crap and won't let me dictate the order of tracks I put on it etc - always puts in alphabetical order.
Nero site says power calibration error is caused by bad media, bad power supply or bad burner. This doesn't explain how it will burn quite happily on second attempt though. -
^^bollocks,its usually crap media.
What is Power Calibration error
.
Summary
A power calibration error is caused by the inability of a DVD-RW drive to use a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk.
Answer
DVD-R and DVD-RW disks themselves have information written on them, within this Media ID code there is information that the drive uses to calibrate itself to the disk, when a drive first starts to write to a disk it will burn a small amount of data to a calibration area on the disc, using the calibration information in the Media ID code, and then try to read back the data that it has written. If it cannot be read, then disk will be ejected and fail with a power calibration error.
A power calibration error is normally caused by problems with the media. Should you be experiencing problems with your drive or the media, we recommend that a disk from a good quality manufacturer be used to test it.
For fault finding purposes we recommend the use of a disk of a known high quality, we recommend disks from:
* Pioneer Video Corporation
* TDK Corporation
* Hitachi Maxell
* Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Verbatim)
* Taiyo-Yuden Co. LTD
* Matsushita Electric
* Industrial Co.,LTD (Panasonic)
* Sony Corporation

OK Foxbreath... If it's bollox then explain why I can burn on my
media perfectly well with a different program and also perfectly the second time I tell it to using NERO with the SAME media- and never had problems before.
Like I said NERO site suggests other alternatives to just bad media - perhaps this is bollox. If there is a problem when burner addresses
the calibration part (close to centre of disc I believe) then it will more than likely be media related but also could be other factors.
Go on shed some light on your opinion other than quoting some stats...
EDIT also my media burns REALLY well in my Plextor SCSI CD burner. -
my computer crash while back and when i reinstalled windows got the powere calibration error. I was using +r disc when i got the error. tried different +r media still same error. switch to -r disc and have no problem with them but still can't use +r media

koinhelgo,my "bollocks" werent directed at you,but at barnabus,if you look at the time of the posts,yours appeared before i had time to submit my post.i saw his and directed my "bollocks" to him.
anyways take a chill pill,ok.
and as for neros info,i always find it funny that they really dont want to point to a problem with the bug ridden software.LifeStudies 1.01 - The Angle Of The Dangle Is Indirectly Proportionate To The Heat Of The Beat,Provided The Mass Of The Ass Is Constant.
