OK, I've got an mpeg-2 file in which the left channel either isn't there or is corrupted. The right channel works fine; I know because in the mpeg-1 version of the same file, burned to VCD, I can get the sound to work properly in my DVD player if I select Right Channel audio only with the remote. If it's left on Stereo, mostly no sound, with intermittent microsecond snatches of sound coming through. Problem is, in the DVD I burned of the mpeg-2 file, I can't select right or left channel; my DVD player will only play both audio channels at the same time with DVDs, and won't let me select right or left channel. So, is there a way to demux the audio of the mpeg-2 file, separate it into right and left channels, delete the left channel so only the functioning right channel remains, and then duplicate the right channel so the same audio will be coming out of the left channel as well? I've extracted the right channel and converted it into a wav file using VirtualDub Mpeg2. Now, how do I get rid of the audio on the mpeg-2 file, convert the functioning wav file to the proper format and remux it together with the video file into a fully functioning mpeg-2 file?

You can use Audacity and duplicate the working channel to the other channel, then save out as WAV. You may have to import as raw in Audacity. Other audio editors should let you do the same thing. Use that stereo/2 channel file and convert it to AC3 with ffmpegGUI, then input that to your DVD author program as the audio. Then burn as DVD.

Thanks Redwudz! So, I demuxed the file using TMPGEnc's mpeg tools, discarded the audio, used Audacity to make the mono wav file I extracted using VDub into a stereo wav file by making a new stereo file, splitting it so I could work with each channel individually, copied and pasted the mono file onto each channel of the stereo file, and saved as wav file. Then I used ffmpegGUI to convert the wav file into both an AC-3 file and an mp2 file. I used TMPGEnc to remux the video file and the newly-created mp2 file into a perfectly functioning mpeg-2 file, then used TPMGEnc DVD Author to burn it, and presto! Works perfectly. This DVD was a birthday present I've been working on for days now, trying to figure out what was wrong. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

You're welcome. And thanks for figuring out all the in-between moves to accomplish your goal. That makes it a lot easier to give advice. Glad it worked out.
