OK A couple of easy questions *hopefully*

I have a 60MB MPG that I wish to resample for e-mail purposes to a 5-10MB file. Suggestions??? What program???

I have already used Videoredo to strip this file from a bigger one. When I look at Gspot it sees no audio but when I play through a couple of different players the audio is fine...

    Thanks

    Hi,

Use virtualdubmpeg2 to convert to divx or some other codec.

Though remember you'll get quality loss if you compress too much. Just test and see what is acceptable to you

To keep the bits per pixel (quality) up, you may want to drop you resolution to 1/2 or 1/4 of current size.

I'd use Windows Movie Maker, the "High quality video (small)" template and output as WMV.
    If in doubt, Google it.

wmv should be the best choice for good quality an small file size.

  6. wmv are suprisingly high quality for small files 512kbps
just shy of 4MB per minute of footage

did microsoft make the codec themselves or nick it off someone else

it feels strange to hear people complementing a M$ product :P

divx @800kb/s is pretty good too
plus it has the advantage of being able to be cut easily without yet another reencode in virtual dub

    Hi,

Yes just use virtualdubmpeg2 as you would with a normal avi file. Just go to file, open video file, and select your mpg file. Then choose the audio and video codecs you want to compress it too.

That's because there isn't an install

Just double-click the virtualdub.exe file and you're good to go ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

OK trying to use VirtualDub and I get an error when I try and open either of the MPG files:

"MPEG Import filter: Invalid pack at position 3: marker bit not set possibly MPEG2 stream"

    Ideas???

    Just an FYI....

I ended up using Canopus Procoder and it had a great wizard that I used to step through and reduce the size of the mpg.....
