  1. Hi,

I've used DVD2svcd on VOB files many times and lately, I do not get the regular MPG files like I used to. I only get the BIN and CUE files. Although they are divided into the right sizes, I have to use VCDeasy to suck the MPG out of each.

Only thing changed I think is using a new version. I must be blind, but I cannot see a related setting. I don't know how the heck I lost this. It used to be fairly smoot.

    Please help..

When I used to use that program, I always burned using the CUE file. That easily allows a file size over 800MB. Is there a problem burning the BIN and CUE?

  3. Nope. But I don't burn DVD. Just VCD. And it has been doing it fine, making MPG files until the upgrade.

Don't want to buy a DVD burner since I'm about to upgrade the PC and get one included. Economics I guess.

I can take the BIN and just watch it after mounting it with Daemon, and playing it in the computer, but not if I want to burn a VCD for the TV.

  4. Under Misc tab, there is a check box for 'Don't delete any files'. That should keep the .mpg version.

  5. Oh yes. Thanks! Knew it was a dumb lil' setup thing I had missed.

    I just love this place

  6. But in fact you must simply burn cue/bin to CD. You should set your burner app to burn CD Image, not files.

  7. I finally get it. Thank you guys!

I've been exrtracting the MPG and burn it. Not burning the BIN file instead. Extra step. Don't ask why

But I feel much much better now.

    I wondered....

When I used Nero for burning with DVD2SVCD, making SVCDs, I selected 'Burn Image', then select the CUE file and Nero will use the BIN to burn onto the CD. The CUE is the instruction for burning the BIN. One advantage is you can get about 830MB on a regular 80Min/700MB CD, so you preserve the maximum quality.

Most other programs that accept BIN/CUE will work also. With the BIN/CUE method, the burning program won't mess with the files, it will just feed them to the burner. Also nice if you need to make multiple copies.

  9. Here I'm bumping this up so I can get some clarifications.

Originally I had posted to see how to deal with BIN and CUE files and why I was extracting the MPG out of them. I was right in doing so for this reason...

Burning the bin to VCD will not play. I had to extract from the downloaded BIN to an MPG with VCDEasy Tools. Or ISObuster. If I burn this result MPG it would still not play.

Now I have to take that MPG and use TMPG Mpeg Tools, to trick this into being an MPG 1 VCD. And only then, burn it.
    But now it plays.

Lots of steps. This is however the only way I am able to use a BIN file, with my limited knowledge.

Alternatively, I can use DVD2Svcd and use the MPG files from that one. And they will play, since they are VCD compliant. Except I did not check the "Don't delete any files" box. So I missed the MPG and had to do the suck it out and remux it to VCD bit. But now the setting is there.

    Am I rambling?

Any comments? (Aside from being a Noob?)

  10. Sounds like there is a problem with your player...

Are you making SVCDs rather than VCDs? Though it is generally not a problem with modern players, earlier DVD players had issues with SVCD compatibility.

Among many different issues, one hack that worked on some players was to remux the "SVCD" MPEG-2 file with a MPEG-1 VCD-like header. It sounds somewhat like this is what is happening.

  11. That is exactly what is happening. It will play VCD but not SVCD. So I Remux in TMPG with the MPG tools, and run it through as an Mpg 1 format. It will then play SVCD, but it thinks it is a VCD.

So if I burn the BIN, it will not play until I extract the MPG and remux it to VCD. Such is life.

I am not aware of any trick to make a BIN burn read in the DVD player, other than the above process. (Which is a pain in the buffer )
