Hi, all !!!
I convert AVI files to SVCD for a living and then put them on a SVCD-DVD. This is what I do.
I open the avi in VirtualDub (Latest release no alterations), then "full processing mode" and "no compression".
Then I open it in TMPGenc Plus and open first the video file and then the wav file created with virtualdub, set custom size to nullify the overscan on my tv and then start converting, then transcode the audio in DVD-Lab and compile a dvd test with powerdvd and test with standalone buth both do not work. I have build 50 dvd's with this method. But now I have some files of different tv-shows when I I save them as a wav file the audio is 1 second shorter then the video and this will endup in an out of synch SVCD file. I tried Goldwave and the other program suggested but no results at all.
File info:
512x384 29.969 fps
Lenght: 22:10:97
Xvid MPEG 4 Codec
44.1 Khz
2 Channels
Sample Precision N/A
Compression Frauenhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
Lenght: 22:10:96
If you need to know more plz ask.

OFF TOPIC
I'm making them because I can get 10-11 (sometimes 12) 20 minute episode of random tv shows on one dvd and even retain (at least in my eyes) the quality of the original divx/xvid. -
Did you scan for errors? You can do that with Virtualdub, and repair the file too.
Baldrick is suggesting that you use 1/2 DVD resolution of 352x576 (PAL) rather than SVCD's 480x576. The resolution is close so you get similar quality but it is 100% DVD compatible."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
Avi2dvd's audio ripper is the best I've found yet (for avi's)!

I'll give the virtual dub error thing and that dvd2avi tool a try.
