  1. Like the subject says, I've created AVI's from my DVD's, however, they're just too big. A two minute trailer is 20MB. I've cropped the AVI and gotten it down to 8MG but still, that's a tad to big for an internet download.

How can I decrease the size without giving up too much quality?

    Thanks!

  2. Try converting it to .asf or .rm file... they're highly compressed and good for internet streaming... it's not going to have the quality of a VCD, but you have to sacrifice something for faster download times.

  3. What format is .asf?

And if I go from .AVI to .RM, which software tool would I use?

    Thanks again!

  4. Simple. MPEG encode it! It's also possible to reduce the size of it (and usually improve the visual quality) by using the temporal smoother. Another codec might do the trick too, but then it would also be required for playback. My advice is 1) use the temporal smoother, then frameserve it to Tmpegenc and 2) encode as mpeg-1.

  5. Thanks a ton! I'll do the following and see what happens. I had another question as well but found VirtualDub to be the answer for editing large vid clips.

    Thanks!

  6. Well MPEG1 doesn't give the best compression ratios. You said you made an AVI and (I assume) that the format your want. I would suggest that you make a DivX encoded file (MPEG4). See the author section to the left.
