I tried a memorex 2.4x DL disk in my new NEC 3540A burner using record now deluxe 7.3.It recorded the whole movie ok,but it came up with an error while finallizing the disk,I didn't write down the error information, but i tried to play the disk, and it worked. It was edited with dvdremake.
I tried another movie with the same type of disc using copytodvd, and it worked fine with no errors.
I then tried a Ritek 01 unbranded disk using copytodvd and it also worked ok.
I'm leary of using record now until i can find out the problem.I couldn't find anything on the website regarding this error.Has anyone run across this problem?
    Thanks

  2. Brad, I use RN7.3 and also had problems with the Memorex DL (I have a Pioneer DVR109). First time I tried was at 2.4x which terminated with an error (the disc is a coaster). Second time I tried at Max speed and it said "Successful" but the disc has problems around the layer break.

I have successfully used Verbatim DVD+R DL before-and-since this episode. I can't tell if the problem is the Ritek (cheapo) discs Memorex labeled, or if it's my Pioneer burner (not tweaked to handle Ritek DL?) but until your post I hadn't really thought of RN as the culprit.

Certainly RN7.3 is not handling these discs well! As I said my 2nd attempt ended w/RN saying it was a good burn, and it certainly was not (I tried playing the disc in 3 or 4 different players).

I have one Memorex disc left, which I probably won't try until a new update of firmware for my Pioneer comes along...

I've burned a couple of the Memorex DL's using RN 7.3 using a Lite-On burner with no problems, fwiw.
    I don't have a bad attitude...

  4. Good to know, thanks. I can hope for a firmware update that has better support for Ritek from Pioneer, anyway...

  5. I've found RecordNow Deluxe always craps out at the layer break (regardless of its postion) on Ritek D01 media on the Pioneer 109 with the latest (1.55) firmware... it seems fine on all the other brands of media I've tried.

It's a sod, since the media more or less burns fine (ie I've seen better scans) with Nero and DVD Decrypter...

  6. Garry I had trouble w/1.55 so reverted to 1.50; anyway on the strength of your post I am going to try burning my last remaining Memorex DL disc (Ritek) using DVDDecrypter. Will advise how it works...

  7. I don't blame you - I don't know if you've been following the other thread about dual layer burns or not recently - if not take a look at https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=225001 - but the issue of cost of dual layer media in the US has been raised before now. If you've been paying that sort of money for blanks I'd want something a bit more reliable, too !

Interestingly enough it's only RecordNow that fouls on these discs - it returns a DLL error when it hits the layer break. Everything else handles it just fine on these discs. Weird...

3 Burns with copy to dvd and no problems.I think i'll abandon record now deluxe. I've used 2 firmware versions on my nec 3540, and both work ok.
