  1. has anyone noticed that avi's with ac3 audio tend to have really low volume when converted (never a problem with mp3s...maybe its taking 6 ch and making it 2? or downsampling or something)

before conversion its fine but afterwards its very very low....this was never a problem with winavi (however i can sacrifice volume for the quality i get with divxtodvd)

then, when its played on my dvd player, the volume is even lower...i have to blast the tv to more than half way and u can hear air/static (this happens on my other dvd player as well which is hooked up to surround sound..so the 6-channel audio being forced into tv stereo speakers is not the issue)

i have talked to others about this issue so its not uncommon...i havent seen any solutions...help please!

I haven't noticed, but here's somethig you could try.

Demux the AC3 audio BEFORE running it through DivxtoDVD. Use DivxtoDVD to convert your avi, then demux the converted video. Finally, use something like DVD Lab to put the original mutli-channel AC3 back onto the movie. You should not lose any volume, you should keep all 6 channels, and all should be well.
