I have strange problems - some DVD discs can't be read after burning in my 106D (drive firmware 1.07, Windows 2000). I noticed that on Verbatim discs with MCC 02RG02 media - I burned them with Nero 6.3.1.10 at 2x speed without any problem - but after burning, disc is not readable on the same DVD drive - PC acst like thre is no disc in drive after I try to read it...
But, I tested it on my standalone player and it works fine...
Is this problem in Nero? Drive? Media?
I have problems with that type of discs burned on another burners also (can't confirm wath burning software is used because discs are not readable in my 106D at all so I can't check them with DVDInfoPro)...
Wiht other media like RITEK and Maxell MXLRG02 I never had any problems...
Any ideas?

Nero offers some restrictions (e.g., in filename formats etc) to make the written disc universally playable. Check these up, please. It's probably not a media issue.
Thanks. -
It is DVD video with all options intact and the same as for other media I burned. So, that is not problem... looks like Pioneer has some problem with thi type of discs because I occasionally can read it on that Pioneer (approx 1 of 10 tries while on other drives it is readable without problem)...

I am now using a 108D but previously I was using a 106D and had no problems whatsoever, the F/W in the 106D was v1.08. Update your F/W to v1.08 and I think your problems will be a thing of the past.

I must add I used DVD Shrink to decrypt, encode and re-author and DVD Decrypter to burn. User friendly applications that produce extremely good results and both are FREE.

It is not software problem - it is media problem. Some discs can't be read no matter how I burned them - I already tred Decrypter, RecordNowMax and Nero - all burns well but drive won't read them after successfull burning. Alo, no matter if I made DVD-Video or data disk...
Firmware might help. I have 1.07 ... where I can find 1.08 ? -
The F/W for the 106D came with the burner, I guess you would need to go to the Pioneer site to downloads v1.08. When you update the F/W I believe your problem will be fixed. The 106D is an excellent reader.

I have the same problem with my 106D. I have burned images and data disks and when I try to read them in the drive they will not read. Of the disks with the image burned they play fine in my standalone player but can't be read in the 106D. These are Memorex DVD+R RITEK R03 disks.
The wierd thing about it is that when I first start my comp. in the morning and put the disk in the drive it will read them. But if I wait just 10 minutes after it's running it won't read them.
Im using Roxio EZCD Creator 6 to burn the data disks and Alcohol 120 and DVD Decrypter to burn the images. -
Yes. I already heard that cleaning of lens will solve this!
Now, I am not very good in hardware so disassembling drive is a bit tricky business... any tutorial and tips about how to open drive and clean lense without damaging it? -
I do not think the 106D is compatable with DVD+R, you positively cannot change the booktype of +R discs with the 106D .... why are you using +R ??? I use DVD-R and have NEVER had a problem of any description.
As far as cleaning the lens, there are discs with small brushes fixed to them for that job, keep it simple. -

did you ever find a solution to your problem? i am having the same exact problem at this time...

Unfortunatelly no.
Most people recommend to clean lens but I don't like idea of oppening drive without some tutorial how to do that securely... -
I think a cd cleaner will do the job
something like this

I used a can of canned air and blew in there after taking off the cover. Happened to me in the exact same way. I initially thought it was the media as well until I realized that the "coasters" that weren't recognizable when the write verification started played perfectly in my JVC standalone player.

Just to add to this, I got some new disc's, Memorex DVD-R 8x CMC MAG. AE1 and now my 106D can read them. So it just might be a media issue, at least it seems it was for me.
