    Hi all,

I need to convert RealMedia-Files (.RM and .RMVB) to MPEG2 in order to put them on DVD.
Although I treat all files the same (bitrate, framerate, size, format) via TMPGENC, I noticed that all of the former RMVB-Files play fine in my standalone player and most (not all) of the former RM-Files cause my player to freeze completely (only power-off possible).
Can anyone tell me, how this strange behaviour can be explained ?
Are there some "hidden" properties of the resulting MPGs, which I can not influence during conversion which could be the reason ?
Is there a good tool for Win ME, which I could use to check or compare all/most relevant properties of the working and non-working MPGs ?

    advTHANKSance,
    delta

check with bitrate viewer and restream

without knowing how you encoded the clips and other such data , it is hard to say what the diff is ..

    I took the following steps:

    - Install RealtimeSplitter to enable TMPGENC to handle RealMedia-Files
    - Open the .RM-File in TMPGENC using the DVD-Template
    - Save to disc (no difference if I reduce the Bitrate from 4000 to 2000)
    - the resulting MPG-2-File has no sound, so I used EO-Video to convert the same RM-File to WAV (Using EO-Video for conversion RM -> MPG-2 abends very short before Conversion is finished)
    - Use TMPGENC a second time to combine the MPG-2 file with the Wav-file
    - All works fine, but when I play the resulting DVD (created with TMPGENC DVD Author and burned with Nero) my standalone player freezes completely after about 4 minutes. The only thing that works is the power-off button.

you can't multiplex wav files with mpeg2 in tmpgenc - you sure you didnt make a mpeg1 audio file instead ?

I re-tested it (I wasn't sure after your reply because I already tested every conversion) and it worked:
    - Load DVD-Template in TMPGENC
    - open .RM-File as video and audio source
    - Select Output file
    - After conversion select DVD-Template again and open the produced .MPG-File as video source and the .WAV-file from EO-Video as Audio source.
    - Select Output file
    - Converiosn works without errors.
    - Checking the resulting .MPG-File with MPEG-2-Validator gives errors in video and audio stream
    - File plays fine on my computer, but the authored DVD still causes my standalone player to freeze.

Really helpful would be a tool, which can repair MPEG-2 files to standard.

    Reagrds,
