    Hi,

I have an old P2 laptop on my wireless network with my desktop. There are only two computers on it. My laptop doesn't have a cd burner and only a usb port. I don't want to use a memory card since my largest is only 64mb.

So how do I set up a direct ftp connection between the laptop and the desktop using the wireless router? I have coreftp lite and I can upload stuff to my online account for my forum but I would like to do a direct transfer and not waste the time uploading to the website.

Any ideas?? I can get the ip address off the laptop using the wireless application but I can't seem to connect using just that info on the ftp program. What am I missing?

    Thanks.

    Kevin

The easiest way is a cross-over running directly between the two machines. Create a folder and share it so you can simply shift files back and fro

How about setting up a firewire link if both your laptop and PC have firwewire ports. I know the majority of laptops do come with firewire.

    Hi,

I've never gotten that to work properly. The laptop is win98 and the desktop is xp. I even loaded the windows networking on the laptop but the two never seem to see each other.

In your shared folders, ensure you enable file sharing.

    Hi,

I'm pretty sure the file sharing is turned on.

This is an old pentium 2 laptop. I don't think firewire was even around when this was built.

(thanks for the suggestions though )

Under "My Network Places" are there any folders.

Also, it could be a third party firewall thats blocking you from access.

Does the XP machine have SP2?
The windows firewall was the cause of my similar problem.

There's some sort of order to the way you gotta set it up - IIRC the machine with XP should be the host and the Win98 one should be the guest (I think) ....

Your wireless router should be treated exactly the same as if it were a wired switch. All it should take is for the two PCs to be in the same internal IP range and the same workgroup, and they should just see each other. Run IPConfig from a command prompt on the XP box and note down the IP Address. Then try pinging this IP from a command prompt on your win98 machine. If you get replies, then both machines are seeing each other already.

BTW, to get FTP access you'd need to set up one machine as an FTP server - much better off IMO just using the LAN.
    If in doubt, Google it.
