  1. What are some good dvd-authoring programs that give allow you to add effects to subtitles such as shadows and outlines? I know dvd-lab pro allows this but the dvds i've been making using it have never really worked right compared to some other programs i've used.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

If the subs are going to be on all the time it's worth learning the .ass and .ssa type subs and encode them right into the video. That's what I do whenever I get anything that comes with seperate subs.

You can specify font, color, shadows, etc. It's pretty cool. You can even change the color based on who's speaking. Lots of amazing flexibility. If you've ever seen the awesome karaoke effects at the start of anime fansubs, this is what is usually used.

I use a prog called Medusa to create the subs. Don't remember where it came from.

If my source is a DVD, I do this... SubRip to SRT, SRT to ASS with Medusa.
