Although this came from a different thread, the question for me Id like clarifies is
"I've found out that the Oxford 911 (you may have a different bridge) does not have UMDA turned on by default."
what is the Oxford bridge, and how do I find out about it? and what is the UMDA and how do I find out if its on or off>
thanks I started this as a different thread to highlight the oxford topic hope thats ok

The Oxford 911 chipset achieved fame, but not fortune, when due to a spectacular **** up last year people installing Panther found that their Oxford 911 firewire drives suddenly had no data on them. Oops!
Other than that the 911 chipset is what you use when sticking a hardrive inside an external case. The bridge is what connects the hard drive to a firewire cable.
A google search for 'Oxford 911' will give you a ton of information.
