I have been trying to convert NTSC vob's to PAL mpeg 2 so i can import them into a PAL dvd studio pro project. The best way i found was to use yade x to save the NTSC vob's as streams (mpeg2) then use quicktime pro to convert them to PAL mpeg2.

The problem is you get really bad compression lines all over the picture when there is lots of motion and the audio is out of sync. Fixing the audio is okay but the picture quality is bad.

Does anyone know a good way to convert ntsc mpeg to pal with a good picture quality maintained or convert the vob's straight to pal with good picture quality?

And it isn't anything to do with copy protection as they're not commercial vob's!

  2. Best utility I have found is Serbian's DVD Converter which is part of his MPEG2Works app.

I'll second the vote for MPEG2Works, but I have to ask: Why do you need to convert from NTSC to PAL?

Thanx but i can't really see if its any good unless i buy it.

I'm making a dvd in studio pro that has to be pal format but some of the source material is from an ntsc dvd. I think I'll just record off the dvd into final cut pro as pal and then export to mpeg 2. Looks better in the end

  5. Check:

JES Deinterlacer is a good quality PAL<->NTSC Converter but it can only output to .dv or .mov. The latest version can also use VOB as its input (but then there is no audio in the output so it is best to convert VOB to .dv or .mov with apps like MPEG Streamclip 1st).

I heard PAL DVD players also support NTSC ... so I think you don't need to convert them but it's your choice

    didn't read that :P

few hours ago I converted a PAL vob to NTSC and the quality was good.

maybe not as good as the pal one, but maybe you'll get better results cause you're converting from pal to ntsc, and someone told me (and I also think that..) PAL is much better quality than NTSC

    Give DVD Converter a chance
