hi,
trying to convert some mpeg2 tv 16:9 captures to xvid, somehow Vidomi is acting up, xmpeg too so im trying tmpgenc express "output to .avi".
im selecting xvid, 1st pass, 2nd pass configure, then audio - lame @160, hit convert but it ends up with a file almost as big as the source?!?!
ran it thru gspot it reports it being an xvid .avi allright but the bitrate is like 10mbps?!
please help![]()

im using tmpgenc xpress because nothing else works...vidomi breaks up, virtualdub i can't seem to find the audio compression options, dr.divx was a trial now expired and divx6 converter sucks. I might try flaskmpeg or xmpeg again tonight.
Somehow it worked out with tmpgenc but the resulting file was tiny this time and had a bad quality even at 1300kbps bitrate. Is there a way to make xvid automatically start the 2nd pass after the 1st one? dr.divx was really the best for me...
i have 3 files, 1 pregame and 1 for each game half, totalling around 7gb. total runtime around 2hrs. I want to maybe merge them into one before converting to divx/mpeg. What would be the best way? To create 2x700mb files the bitrate would be around 1500kbps for a 2hr material... -
Virtualdub - set video to Full Stream Processing, then set the compression on the save dialogue.

I'll try tonight as suggested by gunslinger...although i think default is FSP, not directstreamcopy (i already did that). So basically do 2 jobs, one for 1st pass (resulting in the huge file), 2nd on 2nd pass, right? How can i join the 3 mpegs and cut out some commercials before i encode to xvid?

use virtualdub-mpeg2, it is same as virtualdub and you will find the audio->compression....

virtualdu(m)b doesn't work either with xvid, no matter what settings i choose for 1st or 2nd pass it always gives me a huge file almost as big as the source after 1st pass, after 2nd pass the bitrate is fscked, like 300kbps, i can count the macroblocks on one hand. what the hell is going on?
is there an utility that wipes ALL codecs from your HDD, like drivercleaner is for gfx drivers? -

using xmpeg i was able to do a 3pass 1500kbps encode on a sample 1min mpeg2 capture...the result is awesome. I use a Leadtek winfast 2000 expert (10bit dac, comb filter, etc) with composite inputs (sat box doesnt do svideo over scart)...capturing using Leadtek's own application, WinPVR with the "DVD" preset 720x576@6mbps.
Sometimes i wonder if Winpvr outputs mpeg2 as 100% mpeg compliant material, cos Tmpgenc Dvd Author always complains the GOP is too high...
I'm encoding the 1st video overnight, 3pass overkill but im sleeping anywayWill let u know how it turned out. Cheers

If you don't need a file of a specific size there's no point in a multipass encode. Quantization mode is a constant quality method. Pick the quality you want, every frame will have that quality. The file will come out to whatever size is needed to maintain that quality with only a single pass.

* just a quick question on resizing: the material is 16:9 but the card captures it in 4:3 (even if i force 16:9 in the player part). So xmpeg sees it also as 4:3...does resizing mess up the 1:1.25 ratio in the end? (im kinda confused on what valid resolutions i can resize into). -
started a thread on hardware encoding here
