  1. I'm not talking about pirating a copyrighted DVD or anything here.

A friend of mine put together a DVD with some home movies, and it has a table of contents and all that. It's a legit DVD and I can view it no problem.

I'm trying to copy it using DVD-R discs and the Nero software that just came with the DVD burner I bought (It's a Sony DVX-720UL).

I've tried 3 times, but I keep getting a failure. It successfully reads the DVD and makes an image, but something happens during the burning.

The DVD burner definitely can handle DVD-R discs. My computer had just been booted, so it's not a memory or processing issue. I tried again to burn the DVD using the image I saved, but that failed, too. It seems like it fails immediately.

Any ideas? Is there a better (read: free) burning software I can use?

    Here's the log:

Yes, DVDDecrypter: First ISO read, then ISO write.

  4. Thanks, guys.

Ok, I loaded up the program, but it doesn't appear to recognize the DVD burner. Only notes the DVD drive - not the burner I have connected via USB.

Also, if I don't have the DVD in my possession at the moment, can I burn off the image that Nero made for me (or is that just a proprietary file that only works with Nero)?

    Thanks.

  5. Just to clarify:

The DVD burner is my H: drive.

When this app boots up, I get an error message that says:

    I/O Error!

    Device: [0:0:0] (H

    CDB: 12 00 00 00 FC 00
    Interpretation: Inquiry

Reasons: The specified network resource or device is no longer available

    Thanks.

Nero image format is proprietary, yes.
Never dealt with USB burners (for a reason, it seems! ).
Try writing a DVDDecrypter ISO with Nero - that might work...

  7. Mats,

Could you clarify what you meant?

Were you saying that I can create an iso using nero and the image I had previously created?

How does one actually do that?

You can load and burn a Nero disc image with DVD Decrypter.

You said you already have the image from nero but not the original disc anymore ? all you have to do is set DVD Decrypter to ISO Write and open/load the image you already created with Nero & burn.

And i also have never used an external or usb burner before so i don't know much about them either.

  9. Noah,

    Thanks for the reply.

DVD Decrypter may have a problem recognizing the external burner. I keep hitting "Drive\refresh".

Finally got to the ISO write screen, selected the image, but got this message:

    I/O Error!

    Device [0:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-720A JY02 (H (USB)

    C2B: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 0 - 31

Reason: The semaphore timeout period has expired

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

My thought was that you create the image with DVDDecrypter, burn it with Nero, but on second thought that was a really stupid idea, since it seems like DVDDecrypter doesn't like USB burners - neither for reading nor writing...

  11. Matts,

    Thanks for the replies.

I got it to DVD Decrypter to work using the Nero image. I have an old PC with USB 1.0 ports, and the USB burner was connecting to a USB hub.

I moved the burner straight to the MB, and it worked fine.

    Thanks!

  12. after creating the iso or the VIDEO_TS folder for the dvd ... i recommend CopyToDVD 3 ... it is an easy to use program, and when you tell it to burn to dvd it will ask you if you want the DVD VIDEO or as DATA.

Click DVD VIDEO, that is what i do and i make DVD's all the time and have created and burned over 100 copies with no problems ... HOPE THIS HELPS !!!
