  1. I've converted my mpeg files to vob's using winavi. I set the details to make the converted mpeg's to fit into one dvd. Once converted each new vob it titled separately (vts_01_1 through vts_12-1). From my understanding of vob's, the 01-12 would be the separate chapters.

Now to get to it, when I go to play the dvd in my standalone, it plays great but when I skip chapters it'll only do a few (maybe 5) before it acts like it's the end of the disc. What's going on here?

No, your understanding is wrong. VOBs and chapter points usually don't coincide.

Oh thanks for the insight into my problem.

How do I make the vob's and chapter points the same? Do I have to re-author the dvd to set these chapter points or what?

EDIT**Another thing is that the main vob's WERE the chapter points for the 8 chapters that it did give me.

  4. Alright another issue just came to the surface. I burnt the dvd with 12 converted mpeg's on it but like I said above there are only chapters for 8. Well I came to realize that it will only play 8 of the converted mpegs. The other 4 are missing when playing it on the dvd player but all12 are there when I opened the disc on the computer.

Don't confuse VOBs, IFOs and BUP files with anything computer related. It's stuff meant to be read by a DVD player, nothing else.
If you do have 12 DVD compliant mpg files, author them as Video DVD with a "real" authoring app like TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVD-Lab or (free) DVDAuthorGUI. All these lets you assemble your 12 files as you want them, you can insert chapter points, split them across several titles, merge a # of them into one title - actually, this is what authoring is all about.
