    Hi everyone!

Before i explain my problem i want to apolagize for any techical error i might write here, as this is a area of the pc that im not familiar with.

My father bought a pc while I was abroad, so I dont know what the people at the shop told them, since I came back I tried to use the line in/mic function on it but I cant hear anything, I checked the sound volume settings but nothing.

When he bought the pc he bought a CREATIVE 5.1 SPEAKER SYSTEM to connect to the pc and he was told at the shop it would work.(although I cant see any connections for it in the back of the pc)

The back of the pc only has a headphones, mic and line in connections.

I looked at the books that came with the pc and in one of them it says there is a something called soundmanager/ac97) that will enable the the headphones, mic and line out to work as connections for the 5.1 speaker system. I will upload some pics later from the book, so I think this function is enabled and stopping me from using the line in function because according to the book its being used as a coonection for the 5.1 speaker system.

I looked on the pc and I cant find the program that the book describes, I reinstalled the software in the cd that the booksk says but all get is a program called “AV RACK” by REALTEK but no sign of the program that will according to the book restore the line in and mic to their original functions.

Can anyone help me with this

    Sorry for the errors.

I typed ALC650 into google, you know, just for laughs. The first link it produced is the download site for the drivers for this card, and the utility software. It is the AV Rack software, which is supplied by Realtek, the manufacturers of the sound card. The manual is either wrong (very possible) or out of date (also very possible).

i have the cdrom that has the instalation of the avrack. when i do the setup it says its installing the ALC650 and avrack.

sorry guns1inger never thought of that because it said it was installing it.

maybe it is out of date or wrong cd

do you see any problem in aving this setup?

This is exactly the same as the drivers etc posted on the Realtek site -> http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True

You have nothing to lose. Set a restore point before installing, so if worst case happens, you can simply roll it back

  13. In order for this exchange to be useful to future members with the same problem,

PLEASE DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID TO SOLVE YOUR ISSUE!!

Did you think you are the only one who will have this same problem?

Did you think the members of this forum are just sitting around, hoping to suggest answers to problems?

Did it occur to you that the SOLUTION to this problem is the valuable part of this conversation, and that by not posting HOW YOU SOLVED IT you render this entire post a colossal wast of time?

Please show some courtesy to those who have helped you and the many future users who might benefit from YOUR information, instead of being forced to repeat this apparently useless excercise.

    WHOA

First point: allow myself to test the solution further.

Second point:i do not have broadband im on dial up (my internet connection is billed by the minute) so i have to disconnect everytime i want to test something

Third point:If you have a look on my posts, most of the times i come here is to help other people on what little i know(altough u never said it, you are insinuating that i came here just to ask, get the solution and say "fu.. off now, i have the solution) how very rude of your part.

    I cant believe this guy.

    to anyone it might interest:
the sound manager is in the control panel(sound effect manager), click on it and select 2 channel mode.

by doing that you are"unblocking" the line in/mic jacks that were untill then being used to "feed" the 5.1 speaker system

  16. Thank you! This post now contains useful information which will almost certainly benefit future users.

    Sorry if I offended you.

The number of users who do not report back on their success or failure has been a topic of interest lately. Most simply don't bother, leading to zero contribution to the knowledge base and a lot of frustration.

I am aware I can be a bit caustic at times but really, if you think that was bad, you'll see far worse on this board, and not necessarily from me. Just check out some of the "homemade copy protection" threads!

Again, Thanks for posting your results.
