    Hello from germany,

this is my first posting here. I hope anyone can help me with my av sync problem.

I author my dvd (source was three parts svcd, pal, of a movie) with this steps:

    1. extract the mpgs from the bin images with svcd2dvd v2 9b.
    2. check the mpgs with the gopfixer tool of MPEG-VCR, no errors
    3. author the dvd with svcd2dvd 2 9b
    4. check the s2d files, created from svcd2dvd, with MPEG-VCR gopfixer tool, no erros.
    5. check the dvd's vob-files with MPEG-VCR gopfixer tool, lots of PTS-errors.

The errors starts approx at the 78% (844MB) point of the first vob-file and goes on to the end of the third vob.

And now i'm wonder, whats going on here? Is it possible that svcd2dvd makes av sync errros?

    Any hints for me?

    greetings from germany

  2. Maybe try using SVCD2DVD to de-/re-mux the mpg files first, then load in the created S2D version of the files to do the conversion with. You'll find this option under the Assets tab ( never even noticed it till ChrissyBoy pointed it out to me)

If your source mpgs are in sync you should not have av sync with v2. Apart from "MPEG-VCR gopfixer tool" report: what av sync issues are you having? Are they present in the s2d files as well as the dvd? are they gradual? What are you using to observe/hear the av sync issues?

The errors starts approx at the 78% (844MB)
That sounds like the boundary of the first svcd.... it is not uncommon for PTSs to reset at mpg boundaries whilst the gop timestamps do not in dvd vobs

@ cbc, thanks for your hints, i will try this.

    @ chrissyBoy:

now, the gopfixer tool repots PTS errors, in the vob's only. The s2d files have no av errors. I ovserve/hear the av sync errors with my DVD-Player (JVC XV-N315). If i play the dvd i can see/hear the first error approx at this point where the first and second part of the svcd's are joind. And, i think the erros are not the same and change. At one point you can hear/see the error very good, av sync error ( i think) apporx 0,5 -1 sec. At other points of the dvd the error is verry small and to recognize barely.

ok. If you scan the S2D files are they in sync? Can you try using the "Merge Titles" option to see if that resolves the issue?

Interesting thread! I have problems with sync issues with my girlfriend's JVC XV-N312. SVCD2DVD created DVDs that play fine on my Daytek P871 and my nephew's Nexxtech (Radio Shack) player are out of sync on her JVC. If she "plays around" with them - ie. skips forward by chapters and then back by chapters and then fast forwards to where it was out of sync before it is then properly in sync - but it sometimes goes out of sync later in the movie. Wierd!

@ ChrissyBoy, sorry for the late answer, but i was on a short trip for my company. I think i can test your the "merge titles" hints next days. I get a new tool from http://www.mpeg-inspector.com/ I will try to analyze with it the problem.

@ IIeader, your post was very important for me. I dit it just in the same way, and, oh wonder, i had no av sync problems. I go with the fast forward mode to the out of sync points, and now it was in sync. I did send a mail to the JVCv support about this, an now a'm waiting.

Last days i spend a lot of hours with making test-dvds and watch them with two players, my own JVC
XV-N315B and another (reference) player, a Nintaus N9769. An a friend checks the dvd's with his Pioneer player.

    Here are the results:

The dvds made with svcd2dvd 2 RC9b in the (normal) mode with the "merge titles" option unchecked have av sync issues with my JVC Player. The dvd's play with no problems in the Ninthaus and the Pioneer.
The dvds made with the "merge titles" option checked play fine in all the players.

Now I have examined the single files with the gopfixer of MpegVCR an my new MPEG Inspector (MI) tool.

I found some divergences in the 2sd and the vob files. But I think, these divergences do not matter, i found the same divergences in the vob's of professional made movie dvd's.

I think importand is, in the vob's of the normal made dvd the PTS values jump extremely.

In the "merge mode", Svcd2dvd recognizes this and corrects it im the xxx_s2d_vts_pts.mpg file.

The vob's of the "normal" made DVD has errors like "missing frame in GOP xx", "lost audio frame",
"Gop header missing for one leading picture" and the PTS jumps".

But one should not forget, only the JVC player does not manage with it.

I have answer fron the JVC support, the mean that is not possible, but i can send the player for checking. I think i'll do that in the next weeks.

    23 of July.
Two days ago my JVC comes back from the JVC repair center. They did replace the laser and make a software update. It was warranty.
Today i try to play some of my dvds with the avsync issues, and, nothing of this problem was fixed. Only one of my old vcds play now fine, it plays in the past with some stop and go steps.
Now i think i will see to bay a new player. The new cyberhome CH-DVD 465 seems to be a good deal. I hope so.
