Hi I'm having a little problem. I'm putting an avi file onto a DVD. I converted the file in TMPGenc. Then when I put it in TMPGEnc DVD Author I noticed that the file was just to big.
Now it's only a movie of 1h20m. that should fit onto a DVD. The file size is 4453 and it can only be 4438 (4,4 GB). But the DVD should be able to have 4,7 GB.
So I have 2 questions.
1: Is there any fast way of resizing the file, without having to convert it again.
2: Shouldn't a 4,4 GB file fit onto a 4,7 GB disk ????
Any help would be appreciated.

1. If you have authored the DVD, then run it through DVDshrink and resize it. Otherwise, re-encode it with a lower bitrate to reduce the size. You can use a bitrate calculator from the 'Tools' section to the left to calculate the bitrate needed to fill a DVD of 4.37GB.
2. A DVD holds 4.37 GB, the 4.7 number is calculated a different way. -
Just for fun I burned the to big file anyway..........and it's fine. Just had a look at it in my DVD player. Evrything's there.
How's that possible ???Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of This Miserable Week -
Oh and another thing, I did use a bitrate calculator. How come it was still to big ???

It was an avi file, no subs or menu. What about the audio ?? Does that get a seperate space ??? In the end all I had was a Video_TS file.

For next time, what should I do with the bitrate to make sure it fits ???

You can actually get up to about 4482MB on a SL 4.7GB DVDR without any hassles. It just might be that TMPGEnc DVD Author is a little conservative with how close it allows you to get to that. In the future, try using about 50-100kbps lower than whatever the bitrate calculator gives you, or alternatively set the bitrate calculator's size to 4300MB or thereabouts. This should give you plenty of room to put in chapters, menus, etc etc if so required.
If in doubt, Google it. -
