i just downloaded cucusoft avi to vcd dvd version 6.11 and when i convert an avi file to svcd it nearly triples the file size (that's only at a medium quality setting too). i was using v 4.02 and that didn't even double the file size and the quaility was ok. is there something wrong with v 6.11 or do i have to use 4 discs to watch a good quality movie?

SVCD video rate is somewhat variable up to 2600 kbit/sec MPEG-2 (30-35min per CDR) Lower bitrates might double the time.

so what are you saying. as long as the bitrate is below ~ 2000 kbit/sec the converted svcd file won't be so big?

lower bitrate gets lower quality and more time per CDR.

Depends on the quality of the MPeg2 encoder at low bitrates. I usually don't go much below 2600 so I'll let others comment.

I used to drop down to about 2000Kbps to fit 44 min TV shows to a SVCD, but that was long ago. DVD is so cheap now.
