windows xp logon the logoff

I have been working on a computer problem for a friend. That they have 4 user accounts and when trying to login to any of them, they pick one and then it logs off immedietly and back to the accounts screen. Even in safe mode, click on admin and the log off to user accts screen. Any one have ideas on how to fix or get around this. Thanx All.

Sounds like some sort of virus to me. I've seen virii that shut down your computer about a minute after you log on before, and this sorta sounds similar but a little different. A surefire fix is to reinstall windows, but this should really be your last resort. If you (they) still have the XP disc, you could try a repair install, but I don't know if it will fix this. THe damning sign is that it does it in safe mode. If safe mode don't work, then you're pretty much screwed aside from a full reinstall I'm afraid

that was kind of my thinking as well but i figured to try and get an opinion from someone out here. Thanx. Anyone else with an idea would be great.
