  1. I have been unsuccessful in trying to copy a music dvd. It's not an official release, so it doesn't have copy protection. The source disc will play with no problems on my stand alone multi region DVD player and also on my computer's DVD burner. However, it won't play on my computer's DVD Rom. I've tried to copy it two ways:

    (1) Disc to disc copy function using Intervideo DVD Copy 2. This does not work because the DVD Rom won't recognize the disc.

    (2) I tried ripping it to my hard drive from the DVD burner using DVD Decrypter, with the intention of then burning from hard drive to disc. However, this failed also. When the rip process reached 74% completion, an error message came up, with the options of abort, retry and ignore. I chose retry and ignore, but the rip would not continue beyond 74%

    Any suggestions?

What exactly did the error say ?

Try any other ripping software (smartripper, VOBBlanker) ?

    Clean the disc ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. The disc is clean and free of scratches.

    The error message says:

The error does sound like a damaged part of the disc. There doesn't necessarily have to be a visible scratch. Give ISO Buster a try.

Some players are more sensative to errors than others which is why your dvd rom doesn't play the disc.

  5. I tried ISO buster and when the extraction reached 74%, it hit some unreadable sectors on the disc. I tried to re-read them, but it failed. At this point I cancelled out. I noticed that you can select 'Ignore' for each bad sector. If I go this way and ignore all the bad sectors, what is likely to be the result on the disc when I am finally able to copy it?

Hey Waheed, you seem to like Isobuster a lot judging by the entries on other threads, but personally I have found that it hasn't helped me on any unrippable dvd, or cd etc.
Which brings me to another question. Are there none other ripping programs that rip in reverse, ie rip from the end of the dvd towards the beginning ? This way you could rip in decryter up to a faulty sector. Then rip in the other program from the end of the dvd towards the bad sector. Does that make sense ?

ISO Buster doesn't work all the time, but some people have managed to rip using ISO Buster where other software have failed. Its best to try all the software thats available, one may just work.

Im not aware of software that starts to rip from the end. However, you can select to rip any particuler VOB, by selecting it manually, for example in DVD Decrypter. If you have problems ripping, say VTS_01_3.VOB, then select only to rip other VOBs after this VOB. You can rip upto the faulty sector.

Try selecting ignore read errors in decrypter settings so that each faulty sector will be skipped.

  8. I downloaded Smart Ripper and tried again. I thought I had it nailed, because during the initial analysis of the disc, it said that ALL files were readable (including the problem file VTS_02_3.VOB). However, when I proceeded to Rip the disc, it locked up at 74% again, when ripping VTS_02_3.VOB.

Why would the inital analysis say that all files were readable, when clearly one of them was not?

Probably, Smart Ripper just tries to open each file it finds. If its openable, it's deemed readable. If it should read each file thru from start to end, it might as well just rip them.

  10. You can use CD/DVD Repair 1.0. Just load the particular .vob file(s) that is corrupted and let the program fix it. However, you will need a program like AnyDVD running in the background (if protected). Rip the rest with DVD Decrypter to HDD then add corrected file back to the list in your HDD.
