Question about MPEG2 conversion in QT 7 PRO

I just purchased QT7 Pro. However for MPEG Streamer it says I need the MPEG2 encoding software that comes with QT6 Pro. However, since I just purchased QT7 PRO, shouldnt that be installed with the PRO version? Or do I have to somehow install QT6+(without overwriting QT7 Pro)?

QT6 doesn't come with either an MPEG2 encoder or decoder, neither does QT7. Pro or not, it's the same.

You have to buy a decoder from Apple ($29US?) to get MPEG2 decoding.
You have to do it for QT6. You have to do it AGAIN for QT7.

Apple doesn't make a simple MPEG2 encoder for QT/QTPro. It makes "Compressor" as a full-blown application. This application comes with FCP and/or DVDStudioPro, and AFAIK is not available any other way.

Here's your cost breakdown:

QT6-->QT6Pro $29
QT6 MPEG2 decoder addon $29
QT7-->QT7Pro $29
QT7 MPEG2 decoder addon $29
FCP/DVDSP ~$900

Can't get around this any other way (legally, of course).

That's right. Sorry-going on memory and assumed the Pro upgrade was same cost as MPEG2 upgrade...

IF you own the one bought with QT 6, you can use it with
QT 7 Pro. Just re-install it from your SAVED downloaded
.dmg file.

I dont remember, its been so long...but thank you all for the help. Hopeuflly I wont have to purchase it again(which i wont do anyways)
