Hi all - (late night for me)
Does anyone know of a good .PDF creator app ??
Here is what I would like to PDF:
* Excel spread sheets (not too complicated, just some cells colored)
* Word or Wordpad documents (*.rtf and *.txt) format.
* And, to mix Excel converted pdf with Word (*.rtf/*.txt) converted pdf as one.
* minimal graphics, if any (ie, screen captures to a word doc)
* ease of use
* and, freeware![]()
Thank you all for any suggestions,

Open Office should do all of the above. PDFCreator should at least be able to create the .pdf files. Both are open source.

Here's one, though I never tried it. http://www.go2pdf.com/product.html
I found a bunch with a Google search for 'freeware pdf creator'. -
IMO OpenOffice is crappy for converting to PDF. It gets all screwed up with HTML files, putting graphics far out of place. For plain text it works fine.

try open office. you might be surprised at what you can get for FREE.
it's java based so the initial loading of the program takes a bit but other than that i think it's a great peice of software with the ability to make pd files built right in. To get MS Office w/ PDF integration (from adobe of course) would cost you your first born child. -
PDFCreator
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
help and general forum for this also listed on that page
their website home page is here also

Pdftk is a command line tool for a lot of things ..
pdfcreator works as a print driver .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
TGIF everyone
Thanks for all your quick suggestions. Much appreciated.
I don't mind a cmd-line version, cause I can always GUI it.
But, I would prefer something that is printer-driven, like
Adobe writer. But, as long as I can save as a PDF (through
whatever (easy) mechanism, is just as fine too)
I will look into those links you all suggested. Thanks again.

This one works as a printer driver. It produces solid results, and is free or licensed at a reasonable cost. The catch - the free version loads an advertisement in a browser window after creation. It is not spyware. The ad is installed as part of the installer - it does not go to the internet at all. You can delete these files and reduce the annoyance factor, or pay for a license.
Definately worth a look-see.
(I have no commercial interest in this product. I have used it myself, and recommended to a number of people who have been very happy with the results.)Read my blog here.
