(Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum; none seem to fit.)
I installed an IEE1394 card to capture video from my Sony Handycam. Worked great when I installed it a couple of weeks ago, but now when I plug into the Firewire port nothing happens. I have Windows XP and before when I plugged it in, I'd get that familiar "be bong" sound effect and a little Sony camera icon down in the right-hand corner of the task bar. Now, nothing happens. I've rebooted the computer, checked the connection at the base of the Handycam and computer, and verified that the IEEE1394 drivers are still in place. Any ideas where to go from here? What else should I check for?

re mount the card ... it may of just failed also ..
try also putting card into a new slot - which will cause windows to reinstall it"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
if windows does not even see it installed, swapping cables , or using another device is going to do not much good

My Windows never sees an installed FW card, if it's not connected! Seems to depend on the card type!

the card itself will be in device manager always (if working)
but maybe i misunderstood and card is still in device manager but doesnt see DV cam anymore .. not sure now .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

Only the original poster could tell, as the posted "the drivers are still in place", which I would interpret as "the device is still in the HW manager's list". -
could be the Sony Handycam, more than one report of a DV cam connectors going south --
also - ever short out a firewire connection ?
they dont like that to well (done it)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
