    Hi all,

    Please, does Adobe Encore use CBR, 1-pass or 2-pass VBR when it transcodes AVI files to MPEG2, fitting it on the full DVD capacity ?

    This feature seems amazing cause it optimizes the bitrate, the user doesn't have to "guess" or calculate it, but I wonder if Encore, apart from calculating the optimal bitrate, uses CBR or 2-pass VBR to do the compression...

    I haven't found this information on the manual, neither on the help files....does anyone know it ?
    Encore manual just says that it "looks for optimal quality" when doing the automatic transcode, but doesn't mention the method;

    Thanks,

  2. i have found that the best thing to do is to choose the 4MB-7MB--or--8MB pass depending on how many clips you have inserted into the project ... 4 or less use the max possible, more than for next step down or even a 4MB pass will do to transcode your clips...

    obviously a 1pass is less quality than a 2pass transcode ... hope this works for you !!!

    Thanks Ash, but the only reason for using this sw is to use its exclusive (?) "fit on media" feature, I mean, I don't have to guess the bitrate, I'd load the AVI file on it and it'd automatically calculate the optimal bitrate for me, fulling in the full disc;
