view rar files

sorry if this post is in the wrong forum.
i have been reading some posts where people say they have viewed a rar file without downloading the complete set.
so my question is how is it possible to view a rar file without downloading all the rar parts and combining them?

i have been looking for the answer through out these forums and on the net, but no joy as yet.

You could try opening the first part of the rar file in WinRAR. Dont know if its possible though.

If you have just the first part of an avi file (for instance), open the .rar in winrar, select extract and tick the box that says 'keep broken files' or words to that effect. It will ask for the other rars in the set, but whn you click cancel, the partial avi file will still be there. This should be playable or at least you should be able to open it in virtualdub and play it there.
