I only end up keeping the menu and the main movie. I omit the rest like special features, additional audio tracks etc...

DvdReMake will do it anyway you like it ( http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake/ud_dg_01.php )

DVDRemake Pro is great, I use it all the time. Some advice on it:
-Buy from MackemX's link on the Tool page, save a few $
-Buy the Pro version to start with, you'll want it sooner or later and you save money that way.
-Only use Hide (not Delete) functions until you gain confidence in reprogramming the code.
-Always test with an RW disc or using a software player before burning.
-The guys at the DVDRemake forums are great help if you're stuck.
I always get rid of annoyances like copyright warnings, disclaimers and trailers before the menu, even if the original is single layer.
On dual layer titles I need to reduce the size of, I usually get rid of trailers for other movies, still galleries, and any features that look boring like production meetings (blah). I also always get rid of non-English audio (unless the movie is foreign-then I keep the original language too).
I keep only 1 English soundtrack, preferring the multi-channel over 2-channel since I have surround. On DTS titles I get rid of the DTS if there is also a DD5.1 track, otherwise I keep the DTS and sometimes lose the DD2.0/PCM track (NOTE this makes a non conforming DVD that won't play without a DTS decoder). If all I had was stereo or TV sound I would just keep the smallest track. I usually keep any commentaries unless they're worthless.
I usuallly keep the other features that look interesting, maybe music videos depending on whether I like the music or not. Trailers for that movie I might keep if they show scenes not in the movie, otherwise they're gone too.
I usually leave the menus alone except for hiding the buttons that don't work (foreign languages and any features I've deleted). Some people eliminate the transitions (i.e. the clips that play between menus) but I tend to leave them in.
Then I use DVDShrink to compress the menus and extras to the minimum possible size, since the extras are almost invariably talking heads and footage from the movie, quality is not important. This leaves the most space possible for the movie. -

There is a wealth of information in the guides section to the left that will give you most of the answers you need. Seems ridiculous to me to want to be spoonfed through the process. First read, then if you have any questions... ask. Ask me personally... I don't care... make an effort to do something on your own.
If this seems out of line, I apologize. -
yeah seems to be out of line. i can write and ask anything i want.

i ripped the files through file mode. used titlesetblanker to take out VTS_02*.VOB. Then went to dvd shrink and says the same exact thing. "Cannot open VIDEO_TS.IFO" And to test i click "Back to orig. files" and dvd shrink opened it fine. and then i blanked it one more time and clicked the delete backups and now it dont work at all......maybe i have to leave the previews in there huh? this is driving me NUTS
-
Ensure that you are not blanking out the VIDEO_TS file. In titlesetblanker, it is checked to blank out by default. Uncheck this box and then try again. You will need to rip the dvd again to start fresh.
-
the only thing that is checked is the VTS_03_*.VOB file. i click Blank! and then go to shrink, and it gives me the same error. i'll just burn it with the previews...unless someone has the movie Hostage and they can try to see if it works...
would there be any use of shrinking the dvd first and then blanking out stuff?
