i have two video camcorders, a miniDV and a D8. i have footage on D8tapes that i want to transfer to miniDV tapes. this tranfer is done by the use of a firewire cable connected from one cam to another. is this tranfer lossless, or do i loose quallity when transfering those files from one cam to another?

It will be lossless if done correctly but there is no error checking. For example, if the heads are dirty and causing dropouts, those will be recorded.
The transfer should be reliable but there are small risks. If important, view the transfer before erasing the original. I'd just keep the original just in case. At least until the project is finished.
