It's exactly the same unit as the DVR-220. That's a really great price from an authorized source. DVR-220's are still $198 at our local Wal Mart stores.

  2. Does anyone know if the Pioneer 225/220 playback DVD+R discs? I'd like to buy this recorder but I want one that plays both the +R and -R formats.

    Thanks

  3. Yes. It plays back +R/RW and -R/RW no problem.

Records only to -R/RW (VR or DVD-Video format)

  4. That's a great price for a great unit. I would get one for my sister if a membership wasn't required.

wow, thats a good price.. i paid $248 for mine when it first came out.. i've gotten plenty of use out of it since then..

i only have a few complaints about the recorder:

not multi-system for dvd (s/vcd ok though)
will not play dvd+r DL (even with booktype set to dvd-rom)
will only record in 4:3, should record in 16:9 too
audio bitrate should be adjustable, 256kbps is a bit excessive, 192 is the standard

a few things i wish the recorder had:

    divx/xvid playback
macrovision disabled for input & output
    region hack
dvi/hdmi output (the 230/235 has a dvi input)
    component input
