The weird problem I am having is all of a sudden my HP 722c printer doesn't work with XP PRO w/sp2 computer, it won't print anything. I get a printer error. The printer does work though with my WINDOWS 2000 PRO pc so I know it isn't the printer flaking out.
A few days ago I did some updates to XP PRO then suddenly I have this problem. Anyone have some suggestions on how to remedy the situation? I've already done the troubleshooting from XP which didn't work. I did unplug the printer cable and reboot still nothing, uninstalled the port as well and let windows reinstall it but that didn't work too. I tried the rolling back of the driver and it told me there was no backup driver.
I would appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks in advance!![]()

On occasion I've used Windows Update to update drivers for peripherals such as video cards, modems, printers etc., with sometimes diabolical results. I'd try somewhere like driverguide.com or even HP's website and try to find an older version of the drivers it installed. You could also try the Win200 driver on your XP machine, as I've found most things will still work as the drivers generally aren't that different between the two OS's. Either that or possibly try System Restore - it generally sets restore points before changing drivers if you've got it switched on.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanks for replying Jimmalenko! I'll try seeing if the drivers from w2k will work.

I agree about MS drivers, they managed to screw up my ATI laptop video card by insisting on installing an older driver than the one I was presently using successfully. This was a problem.
You generally still have the option in XP to do a restore, which may cure it. When you get a DL from MS, best to check it before you install it, especially with drivers. They should stay away from driver upgrades and stick to the OS.
Always best to go to the hardware site to get the latest updated drivers for their hardware. -
try installing the printer again but don't delete the current printer.
Have it auto detect the printer, but don't have it auto detect the driver. tell it to get the driver from the CD or where ever you have the drivers for XP store.
Then do a test print. If it works, delete the old printer. If it doesn't work, try it again, but use a different driver. -
Thanks for the replies redwuz and stiltman. I've tried the suggestions that were made and I still get a error saying document has failed to print. I did the restore as well with no luck. There is no drivers from the HP site for the 722c printer.....It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall XP PRO....Acks!!!!! Or do away with it period and reinstall WINDOWS 2000 PRO....Thanks again for all the replies it is appreciated!
