  1. I have a ATI TV tuner card and when I capture tv footage it saves it with a vcr extention. Can some one tell me how I can put it on a DVD to play in stand alone DVD players? ..........Win XP, Lite-on DVD burner, plenty HD space, AMD 2400.

thanks in advance for the help

  3. Sorry to repost the same message, but I posted this question in the DVD AUthoring section and should have posted here. Please disreguard the first two posts. (how many times can I say post?)

Ok heres my problem. I new. But other than that, I have a ATI TV Wonder Pro tuner card that I use to capture tv footage. Im trying to convert them to a DVD using Zealot's "All Video to VCD SVCD DVD Creator and Burner v1.7.0" so I can watch them on a stand alone DVD player, but when I do all I get is video with absolutly no sound. If anyone knows what I need to do to fix this, that would be cool. Also, if anyone has any good recomendations for software that can do this sort of thing (Im not sure if you can use other software with ATI hardware), I sure would be greatful. If know one can recomend software, then whats is a good capture devise for making DVDs. Please help, this is driving me nuts. Im running Win XP, AMD 2400, LG burner, 1 ghz mem, sound blaster live, tons of HD space, gforce 5200. Thanks in advance.

  4. Using ATI's bundled Media Library (export) you can output ATI VCR files to MPEG2, you can then author that video on a DVD and it should work fine.

If you are using the ATI MMC software to capture, you should have a number of choices of recording format. One of these will be correct if you intend the final output to be DVD. Have a look at Lordsmurfs site (www.digitalfaq.com) for everything you need to know about capturing with ATI.

Once you have a DVD compliant mpeg file, authoring to make a DVD is reasonably straightforward. I can't help you with the Zealot software you have, not only do I have no experience with it, but I've never even heard of it! I use Ulead DVD Moviefactory (30 day free trial available from www.ulead.com), but a lot of people on here recommend TDA. The choice is yours.

  6. Hells yeah

Thanks Richard_G, That Unlead DVD moviefactory is bad arse. I converted to MPEG2 using ATI's bundled Media Library, then used Unlead to make my DVDs and it worked like a champ. Now I'm busyer than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest putting all my archived movies onto DVD. I salute you guys and this great website. Wish I would have known about it a few months ago. Hope this helps someone else.

Glad to help, I only wish this site had existed (or if it did, that I had found it) when I first started with digital video in 1998!!!

  9. consider going here for good advice on tv capture settings with an ATI card.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/capture/atimpeg/atimpeg.htm

also, I eventually learned that when I accidentally captured in .vcr format, I could use the MMC Library to convert the file to mpg. A useful feature, but otherwise try to avoid capturing in .vcr format.

I try to use a lossless AVI capture as much as possible but for capturing MPEG2 with the ATI tuner card, the vcr files seem to have way less artifacts than the MPEG2 files and it makes alot more sense to me to easily convert the vcr files to a HQ MPEG2 without the artifacts than to capture an MPEG2 with all the artifacts. Both the vcr file and the MPEG2 files are the exact same size. Maybe capturing MPEG2 from an external tuner (TV or VCR) might not have the same artifacts, I don't know. I don't have my VCR hooked up to my PC anymore.

I wish there was a capture in between a lossless AVI capture that says I can fit 39 minutes on the 34GB of free space on my capture drive and the 10 hours that I can fit with MPEG2/vcr.
