  1. Hi,
    I have a Pinnacle DV500 card which offers hardware-level MPEG-2 encoding.
Only problem that the output of the MPEG-2 encoding is a file with MP2 extension (which is not a standard MPEG Layer-II audio file because we're talking about video not audio). I think this is a proprietry format of Pinnacle.
Unfortunately the only DVD authoring software I know which supports this format is Pinnacle Impression, which I don't want to use because its featureset is quite limited.
Does anybody know of other software that support this format, or even better, that can convert this format into a standard m2v file without having to decode and re-encode it?

what does the other authoring tool says about the video?
why is not dvd compliant? the extension does not matter.

Try rename it to mpg and import in for example tmpgenc dvd author.

  3. Hello

You are correct that Pinnacle creates a proproetory format. This file can be used in many dvd authoring applications. Besides Impression Pro [which is actually quite versatile though it has a slow learning curve], TMPGenc DVD Author , and Sonic DVDit wiork very well with these fiiles.

There atre other dvd authoring programs that also work but these are the ones that I have personaly used.

  4. Baldrick - Many applications simply do not recognize the format, it's not just a renamed extension.
hififan - Allright I'll try those. I'll also keep looking for others.
    Thanks.

You can always try demux it and try use in other tools. If tmpgenc dvd author supports it should be standard dvd mpeg.
