  1. Alright I wasn't sure which forum to post in so I figured I'd post in this one

I use Tmpgenc Dvd Author 1.6 to author and Nero 6.6 to burn. I have 2 dvd one is the Tatung dv-688 ( won't find it on this site, but found it somewhere that it only has dvd+R capbilties. ) and the other is Toshiba something ( can't remember the # but when i looked it up it said that it has dvd-r capabilties ). Anyways after I author my dvds and burn it with a dvd+r (dvd-video btw) and pop it in the Tatung player, it works fine ( media used is Benq, Maxell and Fuji all +R ) then I tried it in the Toshiba which gave me a disc error and I thought that it made sense since it said that only -R would play. So then I burn an other copy using a Memorex -R and tried that in the Toshiba and still didn't work, tried the same -R in the Tatung player and got a disc error as well, the disc worked fine tho on the comp as I expected it to. I thought it might be media so I just gave up on the -R for a while and just stuck with using +R and using my Tatung player to play. Then I found this cheap generic disc lying around with contents burnt on it, tested it with Disc Identifier and turns out it was a -R disc, figured I'd put it in the dvd players and see if it would work and suprisingly it worked on BOTH players. Any idea why cheap disc worked ? Could it be the authoring or what ?

    Thanks for any help.[/b]

There's no such thing as universal compatibilty when it comes to DVD-/+R. Some machines play everything, some play none. For example, my Pioneer players play everything with no problem, while my flatmate's Panasonic chokes on +R. Check the media section of this site for more about the players and discs you use.
