I just burned my second DVD and although I had good luck with the first one, the second one has these randomly changing, half to three-quarter inch squares of color in the bottom of the screen; sometimes just one or two and sometimes a dozen or so. Any idea as to what happened? I used Roxio's VideoWave to remove the commercials from a movie I recorded onto an Imation 4.7GB DVD+RW disk using a GoVideo VR2940 and then burned the resulting movie using a NEC DVD-burner ( I don't have the model number with me at the moment.

You watching on a settop DVD player or on your PC ?

Does the raw captured footage have these squares ?

Does the edited content have these squares ?

Sounds like your encoding program was using a corrupt codec to me.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Neither the raw captured footage nor the edited footage has these squares. They only appear after burning the DVD (with Roxio's DVD-Builder). What does one do about a "corrupt codec"?

Why pay for a DVD authoring tool when there are some that are available LEGALLY for free like dvdauthorgui - unless the one you want has features you don't have in dvdauthor/dvdauthorgui?

    Just my US$0.02 worth.

:P Maybe I'm not even a Newbie... perhaps Embryo would be more accurate but... I downloaded the dvdauthorgui and attempted to "Add a Title" (an MPG) but got the error message "NAV packets are not detected. Please demultiplex." I have absolutely no clue to what this means. I realize Roxio is not well liked but I've already forked out the dough and only hope to get it to do the simple stuff that I want to do.

  8. Here on the left side of the screen at the top (<-----) under the videohelp logo there is WHAT IS -> GLOSSARY. Look there what is demultiplex.

Thank you for the direction. Going to the Glossary Page made me realize that I am in waaaaaay over my head here. I've found one of those "... for Dummies" books that I have now ordered and I will read that to at least give me some sort of basis on which to participate here. Thanks for everyone's time.

addendum: I haven't received my "Dummies" book yet but I just went ahead and tried the whole process over and it all worked fine... no blocks of color this time. I really have no clue what the difference between the first and second tries. Oh, well. I got my burned disk.
