I've tried AC3 Filter and Winamp AC3. Both only playback 5.1 AC3 files as 2.0. I need one that will play it back in 5.1. Any suggestions?

Did not work! Still playing in 2.0 using Media Player Classic. It doesn't even light up my Dolby Digital indicator. Does it use a wrapper?

I NEED a player that can play 5.1 Dolby Digital files.

On my computer I have an Extigy and it uses Creative Playcenter to play 5.1 out to the Extigy.

The video editing desktop over at my friend's does not have the ability to hear it in anything but 2.0. It plays back DD 5.1 when WinDVD is being used, so it's not just a speaker config issue.

I really need a player that can play a Dolby Digital 5.1 AC3 in 5.1 not 2.0. I encode the goddamn thing and can't even play it back on the system that is throwing it all together? I'm pretty sure it will play in 5.1 if I make a DVD but I want my friend to hear it without having to do all that.

OK. I assume you have an audio only file in AC3 and not trying to play AC3 from a dvd video.

I did a test in media player classic and can play the an audio only AC3 perfectly in 5.1 surround.

Did you enable 5.1 channels in MPC in the audio properties:

    GOT IT!!!

I went back and looked at the Winampac3 decoder again. Under INPUT in the settings box, it shows the AC3 plug-in so I went into it's configuration and HOLY COW!

It was set for 2.0 by default. I set it for 5.1 and it started playing correctly!

Strange thing, though. It doesn't light up my Dolby Digital indicator, either. Turns out it is either using Direct Sound or Winamp Default. There's no mention of out putting a "pure" ac3 stream. I guess they do use a wrapper.

I love the options it gives me, though!
