  1. Ave,

    Here's the problem...
I have some AVI clips. They are giving me errors every single software i try to open them.

    Windows Media Player crashes
    Intervideo WinDVD 6 crashes
TMPGEnc Xpress says "Error opening file"
    VirtualDub says "Cannot decompress audio"

The only place the AVI opens is in GSpot, which tells me it's a PAL, 25 fps, it's got AC3 2 Channel Audio, and it's an XVID codec, and it says "Codecs are installed".

The bigger problem is, some other folks having the same AVI file are able to play the AVI without any problems, so it's not the AVI itself.

I have dealt with tons and tons of different kinds of Video files and still do... even at this point i have AVI of everything from PAL to NTSC to XVID to 3ivx to DivX... everything... then why are these files giving me error??

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

I would start by downloading and installing the latest version of Xvid. G-spot reports Xvid is installed because it is, but G-spot wont tell you if the version is wrong.

    Ave,

I want to the xvid website, www.xvid.org, and i downloaded what was there in the Downloads section, the latest release. I don't see any EXE file, which can install the Codec on my computer... they all seem to be for unix which need to be build for install. Where can i get Windows Installable?

AC3Filter won't help VirtualDub. VirtualDub requires an ACM decompressor and AC3Filter is dshow.

Since VDub doesn't crash on the video, I would suggest that XviD isn't even been used for dshow decoding. So the version installed doesn't even come into it.
