    Does anyone know of a dvd recorder you can buy off the shelf, simply open it and plug in a hard drive to save paying those rediculous mark ups

    The iLO/Liteon HDD units can be easily upgraded. Or do you want a unit that comes with no HDD but is user upgradeable? No such beast that I know of...
