I have an experience to make, I don't know if it has happened to me or if you know the reason.
i tried to capture some vhs and i tried to do it using virtualbub. I was tired and went to lie in bed; i launched the capture and then forgot it and i fell asleep.
the next day, it was impossible for me to boot the computer; it crashed upon reading the disk and sometimes the bios didn't even detected the disk.. even tring to access it by partition magic didn't make it, errors..
i solved the program by rewritting the master boot record with the hard drivers manufacturers utility, the one that also low formats and reinstall windows.. now I don't dare to send a cap in virtualdub .
what do you think it might have happened?

hard drive failed or got corrupted - unlikely it is virtualdubs fault

may of overheated on a long capture -- seen it

Overheating on capping - been there and shed the tears . Keep an eye on processor usage in Virtualdub to see what it is doing , the hard drive working flat out to save the cap will be belting out the heat as well .

I used to keep the side cover of my pc off when capping for a long spell , had to defluff the case more often but it worked , obviously better cooling will do the trick even better ... but sometimes I can`t be arsed
