  1. hi everyone , this is my first post so go easy if i have made a mistake lol i have this avi i wish to convert to dvd , ive tried 3 different encoder programs and each say " no compatible data found " yet avi plays fine with wmplayer and vlc player !!! any ideas? this is the first time ive had this trouble in 2 year or so.

    AVI is just a container - it all depends on what codecs are used as to how you go about the conversion. Load the AVI into GSpot or AVICodec and it will give you everything you need to know. Post the screenshot back here if you'd like some more specific advice

    thanks for that mate but ive already tested it for codecs eg. gspot and i have all the required codecs installed for this avi , ive also run error checks incase any files were corrupted , all are fine , doing my nut in now lol screenshot? im lost lol

    Load file into Virtualdub, and go to Video > Direct Stream Copy and then go to Audio > Direct Stream Copy. Go to File > Save as AVI, and choose a filename. Wait a few minutes and you'll have a new AVI with all the data copied across, but with new headers written. Then try converting this new AVI.

    Or you could try DIVFIX. It is a free program you can get here and it will strip and repair the index on the file. This will allow you encoder to recognise the file. this also works to watch incomplete files. Just a suggestion - hope it works!

    neither worked lol ill think ill just delete the bloody avi lol
