I am trying to transfer a vhs video casset to a dvd
I have a canopus twinpact 100, a MAC G5 and a VCR.
The VCR is connected to the canopus by rca jacks and the canopus is connected to the MAC by firewire.
I am using iMovie on the MAC to capture the video.
I have done this in the past. However this tape I just tried to digitize seems to be causing me problems. I suspect some sort of protection on this vhs casset (Macro media??) I don't know.
What happens is that the first few seconds of the begging of digitization are clear then the image gets very dark and stays that way.
So what do I need to do? Is this a common issue?

That is macrovision or some other type of copy protection. You will need something like a Sima "Copy This" box or TBC to go around this.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, you may want to look at this:

What do you mean by a canopus twin pack 100? Acanopus avdc 100 will remove macrovision "noise" if you hold down the input selector button for 20+ seconds before starting movie. you only have to do this once unless you shut off the canopus box. Nyah Levi
