for some time now I have had NAV2005 installed and as of a few hours ago things started to go strange. I have a linksys befsr41 router connected to a linksys voange phone adapter. On port 1 is my main systerm and port 4 is my voanage adapter. Both 1 and 4 link/act lights are flashing rapidly, also my ethernet light on the adapter is flashing rapidly. In my system processes the file ccapp.exe is running and slowing down my system. When I end the process the light that are flashing go solid until there is activity from accessing the net. Also with the ccapp running I physically unplug port 1 and everthing goes solid. Anyone encounter this problem. Thanx All.

Here's a link to Symantec's support page explaining why you need ccapp.exe running. Unfortunately, like with most of their products, they don't explain why everything they do requires twice as much memory and 5 times the CPU cycles that similar programs do. Symantec must hire the worst program designers on the face of the earth.

Sorry for the rant but I absolutely will not allow Symantec crap on my machine. It does look like you will have to put up with it (ccapp.exe) if you want Norton email checking done. Do a Google search on ccapp.exe and you'll find a lot of comments on it.

I for one would recommend dumping the inefficient crap and getting a better anti-virus solution (AVG, Panda).

I used to love Norton but anymore they are such bloated slow programs I cannot recommend them to anyone.

When I go to a customer's house that has Norton installed, I give them 50% off McAfee or AVG or anything else but Norton. I remove it and install the other application and have the troubles they had before are gone and that's before I clean up the virus and spy bots.

Same here LSchafroth, a lot of customers don't believe me when I tell them 1/2 their problem is spyware/viruses and the other 1/2 is Norton. Especially so when they paid $90+ for the Internet Security Suite and find out it not only slows their machine to a crawl and conflicts with other programs, it also doesn't catch/clean all the viruses.

Usually all it takes is an uninstall of Norton and a quick run of Adware / Spybot and AVG. Once they see the stuff pop up the usually get pretty upset with Norton. I've never had a customer ask me to put it back on.

McAfee isn't a whole lot better but at least it doesn't conflict as much.
