You have to step back for a second and think ... is Fox the ONLY "fair" news outlet, and ALL THE OTHERS ARE SLANTED ... or is FOX the one that is slanted and all the others are fair.

Just a thought, something you may want to consider.

  3. How many terrorists have PBS stopped since 9-11??? How many attacks have we had here since we "woke up" ??? zero. And thats not due to any help from PBS.

PBS took over a duty that used to be the parents. TEACHING your kids. If what your child learns is mostly from tv, no wonder children are so screwed up today.
The high cost of living has not affected its popularity :-)

They are ALL slanted, to think otherwise is simply naive or an intentional attempt to fool yourself.

FOX is just more pathetic because they make such a big deal about being unbiased - at least the others have the common sense to keep their mouths shut with respect to integrity and impartiality since they have none as well.

And Dan Rather was far from the originator of the "manufacture proof to bolster a story" concept...

Or is everyone here too young to remember the Dateline debacle over using explosives to "prove" that certain truck gas tanks were prone to explosion during a collision? Nothing like a little dynamite to prove things blow up...

  5. Last time I checked, the job of protecting the US against terrorists was tasked to the Dept. of Homeland Security, among others, and not PBS. How much has any television network contributed to stopping terrorism?

"PBS took over a duty that used to be the parents." (sic):

Then what about the schools where kids are sent to learn? If it's the "duty" of the parents to teach their kids, are you similarly disdainful of members of the educational profession?

    I remember that one.
There's always going to be something like that happening, but it's shouldn't be on a daily basis like some are doing these days.

PBS hasn't been one of them. At least at no time that I can remember.

This is worth a good read: http://www.freepress.net/hallofshame

Another problem of a few modern media outlets has been participation. Al Jazeera does that all the time. In this regard, Fox News is no better than Al Jazeera. They also participate in things, such as attacking PBS and other networks. That's not their job. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO PARTICIPATE IN NEWS, just journal it. Hence "journalist" and not "participant". Some days the fighting between networks overshadows the real news for the day.

Then why did the Bush administration fund a bunch of phony news pieces and pay various right-wing commentators to further its policies? There's plenty of hypocrisy to go around in government.

Care for some more Koo-Aid, sir? That's the funniest thing I've seen all day. It was clear that you don't watch much news well before you admitted it in a subsequent post.

DISAGREE with this statement ... and by the way many Millions of Fox News viewers do also ... Maybe Fox News seems slanted to you because they do present the other side to issues that PBS, Broadcast News and CNN won't touch. Issues such as the other side to abortion, ... I better stop here ...
That's the problem. There is ONLY one side. The problem with news watchers these days if that they believe there are "two sides" to every story. Sometimes there is, often there is not. It is what it is, be it good, bad or ugly.

Fox is very sneer/smirk/wink-n-nod about "fair and balanced" because everybody knows that's a joke ... except for many of the viewers that are being brainwashed by that crap. Fox viewers like Fox because it tells them what they want to hear. The facts are secondary. We live in a society full of pusses. They sue, they complain, and they choose to only watch things that "make them feel better". The entire media outlet is also being ruined by self-proclaimed "journalists" that use blogs. Most mainstream media has checks/balances and rules on how to do things. Some bend them (Fox News), some break or ignore them altogether (blogs, Drudge). People like Dan Rather make a mistake (intentional or not) and suddenly "evil mainstream media" is the cliche of the day. Again, world of pusses and twits.

    Anyway...

PBS, much like NPR and ABC, are some of the last mainstays in excellent mainstream broadcast journalism. PBS as a whole is an excellent network full of quality learning materials. It's a sad day to see such a bastion of television pushed aside. We live at a time where culture and art is no longer valued. It is pushed aside for money (copyright laws, PBS funding, etc), or because a few people whine about things they imagine (this is gay, that is immoral, blah blah blah).
I've been thinking this same thing for a long time. All this complaining about slanting left, slanting right, slanting forward...backward... Gives me a freakin' headache! Did anyone ever think that there is only one truth? At least that is what I've come to believe. One truth... one story...not his side, her side, my side, your side... the truth. Unfortunately, most of the time, we get thirteen distortions of the truth and the point is lost. Suddenly everyone in America is pointing at everyone else and creating new and inventive labels for each other... "leftists, separtists, libs, dems, reps, blogs, dogs, cats" I'm freakin' tired of it. 20 people could back up the facts on X News Network's broadcast and it would only take one moron on Y News Network's broadcast spouting rhetoric about slanting this or tweaking that to put those facts in jeopardy.

I know this comment is sort of out of context, considering LS's comments were made yesterday. I apologize if the topic has slanted (pardon the term) in another direction since.

    Addendum:

Has anyone watched Hannity and Colmes on Fox News? I've watched it a few times while I was at the gym and I must say... I have never seen a more unbalanced show. Is Colmes the most timid leftist they could have possibly put on that show, or is it just me? It makes me laugh that Hannity can go on and on and on and on and on and on about the evils of leftist society and Colmes (the leftist of the two) will never interject... never complain... or if he does, it's some weak arguement. Fair and balanced indeed.

Ever watch Crossfire on CNN? Same thing, just reversed roles.
