Everytime i convert an AVI file to mpg format using TMPGEnc, the audio always ends up out of sync..ususally a bit ahead. Ive tried using other methods in the guides mentioned here but still no luck. I've even tried using VirtualDub Freeze MP3, but it says there are no bad frames so that can't be it. The audio seems to be out of sync right from the beginning, but there its perfect in the avi (divx) file. Any idea whats goin on or how to solve this?

    thanks!

You need to learn how to use the search function.

The audio is probably VBR MP3. This causes problems for most encoders. Load the avi into virtualdub, set audio to full processing mode, and save the audio as an uncompressed wav file. Should be around 700 - 900 MB for 90 minutes. When you go to your encoder, load this wav file as the audio track (actually, I encode as AC3 seperately) and author away.

i did search m8 and came up with a couple of solutions of which i mentioned them in my post. I did what u mentioned as well and it didnt work. I added a .5 sec silence at the beginning of the wave using GoldWave and it helped...but its kinda annoying doing it for all movies so i was looing for another alternative,.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm should assist you with the steps guns1inger described.

It really depends on what audio you've got as to the best way to approach it. Load your file into GSpot or AVICodec and see what audio you're dealing with.
    If in doubt, Google it.
