Hello,
How do I get SVCDTODVD to encode a avi file to DVD at 23.9 Frames Per second and not 29? (NTSC)
My cheap DVD players play the 29 fps fine my my more expensive player is very jerky.
Thanks fof the help.

What is the FPS on the AVI before conversion? Have you tried deselecting 'use pulldown' in the settings tab?

The avi 23 frames per second, I believe. I have not tried it WITHOUT the pull down. I'll give that a shot tonight.
Thanks.

NTSC Film (23.976) is not acceptable as a framerate for DVD authoring. So it needs to have pulldown applied or converted to NTSC (29.97).
So if it is NTSC(Film) in the asset window, by default pulldown will be applied - this should give the best result. Unclicking the "pulldown" option will convert to 29.97 but most encodings this way are more jerky...
Lets see how you get on. BTW is it all avis with NTSC Film framerate that exhibit this or just one? Is there anything in the log which may suggest other problems?SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Hmmm. It is only one DVD player that I have trouble with (my good one). It is a Pioneer 59avi, the video freezes for about 8-10 seconds while the audio continues. Then, the video will start back up in sync with audio and run correctly for another few seconds before freezing again.
I was told (in another forum) that my frame rate needed to be changed to 23.976 to correct the problem which you seem to disagree with. That's fine, I am very much a novice on this stuff, so I am taking the advice of others.
All of the other dvd players I have, including my dvd ROM, play the dvd fine. I just want to play it on my nice player as it has many video adjustments to allow for a good picture an dis connected to my projector.

OK, I justed converted a copy WITHOUT using the 3-2 pulldown and it still played the same.
Any more suggestions? Are high end players more troublesome? If it can't be done, then it can't be done. I assumed because I am new with this there was somthing I was not doing correctly.

Could also be that your most expensive player is pickier about media....did you try another dvd brand and lower your burning speed???

Do you have progressive output on the player? Can you try changing this?

Yes, I think it must be picky. No, I have not tried the lower burning speed, but that is next since you suggested it (I'll do it tonight) Yes, I did try the player turning off the progressive scan with no change in result.

What audio does the avi have? Also what audio do you encode to?

Are you saying that the avi audio is AC3 and you leave this alone so that the DVD is AC3 too? Or is the avi audio mp3/2?

JLemke: Can you try build 2.0.2034 from the users area? I think this issue should be resolved.
